100% CPU load caused by a SQL statement in a "Query Console"

Answered

This is the second time I run into a 100% CPU load (on an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X) caused by IntelliJ IDEA Ultimate. It seems that it was caused by a simple SQL statement in “Query Console” connected to Postgresql 14 Database - the statement just being there without being executed. The project uses JPA/Hibernate as ORM framework.
The problem was project specific and solved by deleting the console.sql file and restarting the program.

This is a known problem in the Jakarta EE: JPA Model plugin. It is fixed, and the fix ships in 2026.3. Your build, 2026.2.3 (IU-262.10968.63), does not include it.

The CPU snapshot you uploaded shows 31 background analysis threads busy in the SQL inspections for `console.sql`. Each inspection resolves the statement against your JPA entities. About 70% of the CPU goes to copying a cache map in the JPA model code. The statement does not need to run for this to happen.

The problem is tracked in https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/IDEA-394944
