it's the app server's problem. i don't know the reason, but redeploying my tomcat (even when the app is small) sooner or later leads to "out of perm space"

if you start idea using the os x equvalent of idea.bat, you can specify which idea.properties should be used which in turn defines the paths where idea should store its caches

help about says 1.6.0_20, i presume this is the default that comes with the eap
