There is a better way indeed. Please open "Help > Find action", type "Registry" there and switch off the "light.edit.file.open.enabled" option in Registry editor, that should help.

Please try Version Control | Confirmation > Show "Clear Read-only Status" Dialog checkbox, that should work.
