How Long Does It Take "New Project" To Open?
It seems to get quicker after been opened a few times, however, it still seems to take much longer that I would expect.
The test is:
Close all projects
Shutdown IDEA
Open IDEA (should just be the QuickStart/Documentation/Plugins Screen)
Click "Create New Project"
This takes about 7 seconds for me.
If I cancel and press it again it takes about 3 seconds.
The netbeans equivalent is almost instantaneous.
Why does it take so long to open a dialog in IDEA?
Is it just me?
How long does it take you to open it?

Same here. I'm using 107.322. The first time I try to do a "New Project" usually takes about 4-5 seconds. Use it a few more times and the dialog opens in 1-2 seconds.
i don't see a problem as i don't open hundreds of projects per day
So a feature that is not often used doesn't need to be improved upon? ?:|
that's not it. i just don't see any room or reason for improvement - even if they double the speed, i'd only save 1-2 minutes per week
it's not a broken killer feature that is used once per month but saves you days like "remove unused parameters, field and method calls across the whole project"
"Room for improvement" would be reducing it from 7 seconds to instant!
"Reason for improvement" would be to not give a poor first impression of IDEA, since this action could very likey be the first thing that new users see.
However, I take your point, it isn't a killer feature or a massive time saver.
I was just curious about whether it was just me seeing this behaviour or not.
I'm too lazy to profile/debug the code to find out why as well :)
I think I'll just open a low priority issue in YouTrack instead!
idea is a tool, not a woman. first impressions are not important for nerds like me :)
