Terminal not giving up focus

I've been experiencing this issue for awhile but only recently hit a breaking point.  When I'm developing I have multiple editors open and multiple terminals in those editors open.  Every now and then one of the terminals will take focus and not give it up unless I close the tab.  While the terminal has focus, all keyboard input goes to that tab.  I looks like I can focus the editor but still all input gets redirected.  I've tried to hit escape to return focus to the editor but that doesn't work either.  This is driving me nuts!  Anyone got any ideas?
