It sounds like a bug. Please submit a request for this.As a workaround, try to un-check "Enable issue cache" option in Project Settings -> Tasks.

XML support is an IntelliJ platform feature, so WebStorm, PHPStorm and others have the same XML support as IDEA. Just download a trial version and check if it satisfy your needs.
